Whale

In the Bitcoin world, a "whale" is a term for anyone holding a large stash of bitcoin. There’s no official minimum amount, but most people consider someone with 10,000 to 100,000 BTC a whale. The biggest whale is Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, who mined over 1 million bitcoins that remain untouched since 2011.

Because Bitcoin’s market size is still modest compared to other markets, whale-sized trades can significantly affect its price when they buy or sell. Still, unlike traditional companies or assets, owning a substantial portion of bitcoin doesn’t give whales any extra sway over how Bitcoin is governed or how it evolves.
