Satoshi Nakamoto

Satoshi Nakamoto is the mysterious name used by the person or group behind the creation of Bitcoin. On October 31, 2008, Satoshi released the original Bitcoin whitepaper, and by January 3, 2009, mined the very first block, launching the Bitcoin network. During the early years, Satoshi was active in developing and promoting Bitcoin, accumulating more than 1 million BTC before suddenly stepping away and cutting off all communication. Since then, none of Satoshi’s coins have been touched.

Without Satoshi’s involvement, Bitcoin developed without a single leader, which many see as a key factor in its resilience and decentralization. The smallest unit of Bitcoin—a “satoshi”—is named in homage to this enigmatic founder.
