Preferred Shares Outstanding

Preferred Shares Outstanding is the total dollar value of all preferred shares a company has issued and has outstanding. Preferred shares (or preferred stock) are a special class of ownership that sit between regular shares (“common stock”) and bonds. Preferred stockholders typically get paid dividends first and may have rights to be paid back before ordinary shareholders if the company runs into trouble.

Formula: Pref USD = Number of preferred shares outstanding × issue/redemption price per share For example, if a company has issued 1,000,000 preferred shares at a $10 issue price, then: Pref USD = 1,000,000 × $10 = $10,000,000
