End-to-End (E2E) Encryption
End-to-end (E2E) encryption is a security method that ensures only you and the person you’re communicating with can read your messages. With E2E encryption, your message is encrypted on your device and can only be decrypted by your intended recipient, keeping it hidden from everyone else—including the messaging service, internet providers, or hackers.
This type of encryption works by using the recipient’s public key to lock (encrypt) your message; only their private key can unlock (decrypt) it. Even if messages travel through third-party servers, those servers can’t access the message content. Without E2E encryption, anyone with access to the server—like service providers or unauthorized third parties—could read your communication. E2E encryption is now used in many messaging apps, emails, and video calls to protect privacy and prevent data breaches.
