Cypherpunk
A cypherpunk is someone dedicated to using cryptography and technology to protect privacy and personal freedom. Rather than relying on political action or lobbying, cypherpunks focus on creating software and hardware that safeguard individual rights, resisting government surveillance and corporate control over information. Many key figures in the early days of Bitcoin, including Satoshi Nakamoto and Hal Finney, are associated with the cypherpunk movement. The guiding principle, highlighted in A Cypherpunk’s Manifesto, is that building secure code is the best way to ensure privacy—summed up in the phrase: “Cypherpunks write code.”
